Skyrim's director, Bruce Nesmith, states that Baldur's Gate 3 will not influence Elder Scrolls 6, as Todd Howard has his own vision for the game. The sixth "Scrolls" should be viewed through the lens of the fifth title.

The former Bethesda developer, Bruce Nesmith, believes that it's unlikely The Elder Scrolls 6 will abandon the minimalist interface of Skyrim in favor of a more complex design, despite the popularity of more technical games like Baldur's Gate 3. Skyrim significantly shifted away from the traditional Bethesda RPG format by completely reworking character attributes and the user interface, while dropping many other elements.

Considering the evolution of role-playing games, Baldur's Gate 3 represents a substantial return to classic tabletop mechanics. The game has been undeniably successful, but Nesmith doesn't think Elder Scrolls 6 will incorporate anything from it.

“I don't think [the success of Baldur's Gate 3] necessarily heralds a complete shift to more complicated character menus, etc. I'm not sure if the rest of the industry will follow suit. I don't have the insight to predict this, but I believe Bethesda has wanted the game to get out of its own way because of Skyrim,” said Nesmith.

Bruce Nesmith is a true RPG legend, having served as the creative director at the original D&D publisher TSR before transitioning to PC game development in 1995 with The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall. He later became a senior game designer at Bethesda and had a significant impact on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and Skyrim. He left the studio in 2021, so he may not be fully aware of the current developments for The Elder Scrolls 6, but he remains an authoritative figure in the RPG community.
