Oxford-based game studio Rebellion Developments, known for the Sniper Elite series, has unveiled the gameplay trailer for Atomfall—a title reminiscent of Fallout and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Atomfall is a single-player action survival game set in post-apocalyptic Britain, close to an abandoned nuclear power station and within its confines. Like Fallout, it presents a retro-futuristic world from an imagined 20th century that has survived a great war, populated with military factions, derelict machinery, and monsters akin to ghouls.
“This new trailer, shot in the style of classic 1950s newsreels, offers a closer look at the setting of Atomfall—Northern England. It is inspired by the real-life disaster at the Windscale nuclear power station in 1957, and the events unfold five years later in a fictional quarantine zone that encompasses hills, valleys, caves, and even a picturesque English village.”
However, the surrounding world is hostile. To uncover its hidden secrets, players traverse military camps, underground bunkers, pagan ruins, and face constant life-threatening dangers. Tools like metal detectors will assist in their journey.
“A multitude of eccentric characters and mysterious organizations inhabit the quarantine zone. These people have been cut off from the outside world for years and left to fend for themselves, so their behavior is far from normal. Your interactions with them are crucial and will influence your journey. But be cautious; not all of them are friendly, and you’ll need to learn to wield various weapons if you want to survive!”
Atomfall was previously showcased at Future Games Show and Gamescom. Feedback indicates that the game encourages freedom of choice and a multifaceted approach, allowing players to use their intelligence and available mechanics to reach objectives in their preferred way. Players can choose to be heroes, eliminate everyone, or pursue other paths at their discretion.
Atomfall is set to release in March 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Many will be pleased to know that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass right from launch.
