Pixel 6 in trouble again: some smartphones "died" after updating to Android 15

Some Pixel 6 owners are reporting that their smartphones are "completely dead" after updating to Android 15.

Since the release of Android 15 for Pixel phones nearly a week ago, reports of issues have started to surface almost immediately. As noted by Android Police, the update has rendered Pixel 6 devices completely unusable, citing user reports on Reddit.

Two owners mentioned that their phones became unresponsive after enabling the Private Space feature and described their devices as "completely dead" — typical troubleshooting methods like holding the power and volume down buttons or connecting to a computer have not helped.

  • “I’m just giving instructions to everyone with a Pixel 6. Don’t enable the Private Space feature when upgrading to Android 15. My Pixel 6 is bricked. I can’t turn it on or reboot it using methods provided by Google. It’s completely dead,” wrote a user with the nickname GegoByte.
  • “I updated my Pixel 6 and now it is turned off. I advise waiting to upgrade to Android 15. The battery is not swollen, it shows 91%... Unfortunately, my warranty expired two years ago,” added user Homer_95.

PhoneArena notes that similar reports emerged a year ago after the update to Android 14. However, this was only related to a bug concerning file storage — in fact, the update significantly reduced available storage, causing smartphones to display a "device storage full" message, preventing access to files or photos.

Introduced in 2021, the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, although initially praised for their design and the specialized Tensor chip, quickly gained a reputation for being error-prone devices: there were issues with unplanned reboots as well as problems with Wi-Fi (there were also reports of the signature cases turning yellow, but that's another story). Last July, analysts at TradingPlatform stated that 36% of Google smartphone owners were contemplating switching to another brand due to ongoing problems.
