One less game from The Elder Scrolls series by Bethesda will be available online, but fans of Morrowind or Skyrim need not worry.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends will cease to exist on January 30, 2025, and players will no longer be able to access the digital card game. Despite its removal from Steam, users who already own the game on PC and mobile devices can continue playing until that date.

Legends debuted in 2017 and faced tough competition in the card game genre. The most notable competitor, Hearthstone, is loved by many, while The Elder Scrolls: Legends seems to have not resonated with the audience, despite its connection to the hugely popular RPG series by Bethesda. The game's Steam population peaked at only 9,000 players seven years ago and has diminished rapidly since. By 2020, the number of Steam players had dropped to just hundreds. In 2019, Bethesda suspended The Elder Scrolls: Legends, and no updates have been released since then.

While Bethesda has not officially announced the closure of the game, players launching The Elder Scrolls: Legends are now greeted with a message about the inevitable shutdown: "The Elder Scrolls Legends servers will be permanently closed on January 30, 2025." It is noted that until the final shutdown, all items in the store and participation in game events will be available for one gold each. There will also be no offline mode.

Instead, Bethesda is offering The Elder Scrolls: Castles—a game similar to Fallout Shelter, which officially launched in September of this year. The sixth RPG in The Elder Scrolls series is set to release after Starfield, but it is not expected before 2026.
