Mario & Luigi Brothership

The Nintendo Direct event of 2024 started with the trailer of Mario & Luigi Brothership, the first new game in the franchise in almost nine years. The trailer showcases gameplay and cinematics. Nintendo's Executive Director, Shinya Takahashi, described the game as a maritime adventure on mysterious islands, where players develop the brotherhood of Mario and Luigi. The gameplay will receive a "dynamic twist" on traditional turn-based battles. The game is set to be released on November 7, 2024.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Where Mario is, there is also Donkey Kong. The game originally for Nintendo Wii is being revamped for Switch, and the remake also includes levels from the Nintendo 3DS version. According to Nintendo, players can take on the challenge solo or join a friend in two-player cooperative play. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will be released on January 16, 2025.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Yes, this is the first game in the franchise where you can play as Zelda herself. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features entirely new styles of gameplay using Zelda's new abilities. The series' producer, Eiji Aonuma, promises a vast difference between playthroughs — each player's experience will vary depending on the effect created by their actions. The game is slated for release on September 26, 2024.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After more than seven years since the game's announcement, Nintendo provides the first look at the gameplay of Metroid Prime 4. The trailer showcases a lot of gameplay footage along with some terrifying alien monsters that Samus must battle in the long-awaited game. The game has received a new title with the word Beyond and a new logo. It is set to be released in 2025.

Dragon Quest

After several months of rumors and leaks, Nintendo announced the official release date of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. The game will be released on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5 on November 14, 2024. The surprise announcement was Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake — a complete overhaul of the original Dragon Quest trilogy. Both games are set to be released in 2025.
