Following the launch of the GeForce RTX 40 series, NVIDIA introduced the 12VHPWR connector, which has caused quite a stir among users. Its successor, the 12V-2×6, will have no alternatives.

The 12VHPWR and 12V-2×6 power connections were not featured on all NVIDIA RTX 40xx graphics cards—lower models still use the standard eight-pin connector. According to Corsair's data, this will soon change.

“The latest graphics cards now require a GPU power connector of 12V-2×6, and we expect this standard to continue with the next-generation GPUs. To meet these demands, CORSAIR offers a wide range of power supplies, with models ranging from 750W to 1500W to satisfy even the most demanding users.”

The site Tech4gamers claims this means even the RTX 5060 will be equipped with the connector, although this is not explicitly stated in the text. The press release also suggests the existence of graphics cards with power consumption exceeding 450W—potentially the RTX 5090, rumored to draw 600W. The release of new graphics cards is likely to occur in early January, but even then, the intrigue will remain due to the anticipated later introduction of the RTX 5060.

However, according to DigiTimes Asia, the Taiwanese cooling solutions manufacturer Auras claims that NVIDIA RTX 50xx cards could “capture the entire market starting in December.” Tom's Hardware notes that despite other sources also indicating December, most agree on early January.
