According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is preparing a "complete redesign" of the MacBook Pro for 2026, breaking away from its traditional four-year development cycle. The update, as reported by the insider, was originally planned for next year, but the company encountered delays related to display technology.
The 2026 MacBook Pro will feature an OLED display that provides increased brightness, a high contrast ratio with deeper blacks, as well as improved energy efficiency for longer battery life, among other enhancements (compared to current models), allowing for a "thinner design" for the laptop.
In previous reports, Gurman noted that Apple is working to make the MacBook Pro thinner over the "next few years" — indeed, aiming to create "the thinnest and lightest products in its category across the industry."
A slight boost in performance is also expected thanks to the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, which are "almost complete."
Recall that last week, Apple unveiled new iMac and MacBook Pro models with M4 chips, a smaller Mac Mini M4, an updated lineup of accessories including the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad (all featuring USB-C), and announced that 16 GB will become the new minimum configuration for the MacBook Air with M2 and M3.
