According to insider information, AMD is set to unveil its gaming graphics chip UDNA. Production of processors for the Sony PlayStation 6 based on this architecture will begin in less than two years.
As reported by the verified informant Zhangzhonghao from Chiphell, AMD plans to introduce the UDNA gaming GPUs no earlier than the second quarter of 2026. These could be next-generation Radeon graphics cards that will not focus on the enthusiast segment. It has already been confirmed that the RDNA4 architecture will target more budget-friendly markets.
There will be no RDNA5; instead, UDNA will be launched. AMD is reverting to a unified architecture similar to the popular Vega design. This unified architecture could streamline development, but it is unclear how it will impact various market segments that require different functionalities. Here are key points from the insider report:
- There will be no RDNA5; UDNA will follow RDNA4
- The MI400 and RX9000 processors will utilize UDNA with an ALU design akin to GCN (Vega)
- Mass production of UDNA gaming chips is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026
- The Sony PS6 will employ UDNA, with either a ZEN4 or ZEN5 CPU, yet to be decided
- Sony's portable console will also use AMD chips
- Microsoft's portable console is choosing between Qualcomm and AMD, though this is not confirmed
- This information comes from the supply chain; specifications and performance details are unknown
Despite some uncertainty, it can be asserted that Sony will continue to use AMD chips. The situation is more complex for Microsoft, considering its partnership with Qualcomm. NVIDIA has also yet to make a statement, although rumors suggest it is preparing its own CPU (presumably with powerful graphics capabilities).
