Asus ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, boasting a maximum refresh rate of 185 Hz, allowing for gaming not just on the display.

The smartphones feature up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM (9600 Mbps) and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage in the standard model, while the Pro variant can include up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. According to Asus, they are 45% more powerful and offer 40% better graphics rendering and NPU performance compared to their predecessors, the Asus ROG Phone 8.

The improved cooling system now features 57% more graphite coating, which keeps the smartphones several degrees cooler, along with an enhanced active cooler. Both the included AeroCase and the additional Chill Case (which passively cools via a vapor chamber) come with an "Audio Redirect" feature. Their design ensures that sound from the bottom speaker is directed forward, providing better stereo sound when combined with the front-top speaker.

Moreover, the AeroActive Cooler X Pro accessory includes a subwoofer, enabling 2.1 sound (a feature that was available in AeroActive Cooler 7 but not in last year's generation). The cooler comes equipped with two hardware buttons that connect to the AirTriggers on the phone itself. Cooling efficiency has been improved with larger fan blades (+12.5%) and an increased amount of thermal compound, enhancing cooling performance by 29%.

Like their predecessors from last year, the Asus ROG Phone 9 and 9 Pro feature 6.78" AMOLED displays with a resolution of FHD+ (1080 x 2400), peak brightness of 1600 nits in high brightness mode, and 2500 nits at peak, covering 107% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The upgrade includes an available refresh rate of 185 Hz, up from the previous 165 Hz, although this mode will only be available in certain games.

The phone also features an additional display. Now both models come with AniMe Vision – a network of LEDs that can be customized for display. The ROG Phone 9 has 85 LEDs (up from just four in the previous version), while the ROG Phone 9 Pro boasts 648 LEDs—almost twice as many as in the 8 Pro model (341 LEDs).

AniMe Vision on the Pro model has sufficient resolution to display text in Chinese and Japanese. Alternatively, users can upload GIFs to add animations. A more entertaining feature is the games section, where users can play Snake, Invaders, and two other games on the rear LED panel, controlling them through AirTriggers.

Both phones utilize a 50 MP main camera based on the 1/1.56" Sony Lytia 700 sensor. Stabilization has been enhanced, now correcting for +/-5° instead of +/-3°. The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro includes a 3x 32 MP telephoto lens 1/3". The standard model, on the other hand, features only a 5 MP macro lens and lacks a telephoto lens, unlike its predecessor. Both models also sport a 13 MP ultra-wide camera and a 32 MP front-facing camera.

Asus ROG Phone 9 comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack. They support high-resolution audio technology called Dirac Virtuo. Bluetooth aptX Lossless is available, along with Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification.

The phones are equipped with 5800 mAh batteries. This capacity is expected to last for about 4.5 hours of intensive gaming. They are projected to maintain 80% of their initial capacity after 1000 cycles (approximately three years). Charging power is rated at 65 W via USB-C and 15 W wirelessly, with full charging taking 46 minutes.

Asus will provide two major OS updates for the ROG Phone 9 and 9 Pro (Android 15 pre-installed) and will issue security updates for five years. The Asus ROG Phone 9 is priced at $1000 / €1100 for the 12 GB / 256 GB model and €1150 for the 12 GB / 512 GB variant. The standard ROG Phone 9 Pro is offered at $1200 / €1300 for the 16 GB / 512 GB configuration, while the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition (24 GB / 1 TB) is priced at $1500 / €1500.
