Ubisoft has quietly released the NFT game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles for PC without any major announcements. This is a PvP tactical RPG on the blockchain, where players need to collect and assemble a team of champion figures to engage in turn-based battles. Although Champions Tactics was first announced back in June 2023, new information about the game has primarily surfaced on specialized platforms.

As stated on the official game page, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles combines elements of classic tabletop strategy games with modern turn-based RPGs set in a dark fantasy world. To win, players need tactics, strategy, and well-considered skills of their selected champions.

The game is free to play, but a Ubisoft account and a connected crypto wallet are required to get started.

Ubisoft highlights its commitment to sustainability through the use of the Oasys blockchain, which is geared towards gaming.

The core of Champions Tactics is the NFT champion figures, which players can either purchase or create themselves on the blockchain. However, this is not free; each figure or minting (creation) will require payment using either virtual gold or cryptocurrency. On the upside, players can sell their figures, but the key question remains—will there be buyers? On NFT trading platforms OpenSea and MagicEden, the price for game figures starts at around 66 (payment is accepted in Ether, so transaction fees, or gas, are also added to the price).

Judging by the trading activity chart on OpenSea, interest in NFTs is rapidly declining.

However, on the Oasys Homeverse marketplace, players do not incur gas fees. Meanwhile, Ubisoft receives a royalty of 6%.

Players begin the game with a few temporary figures that they will eventually need to replace with real ones. Minting (creating their own NFT figures) in the "Forge" system also requires payment in in-game currency (gold) or cryptocurrency ($OAS priced at $0.03325). On the in-game marketplace, figures can be purchased for prices ranging from $7 to $63,000.

The opportunity to earn real money is the game's primary incentive. Players can accumulate gold by winning PvP battles, climbing the career ladder, and participating in seasonal events. Owning a larger number of champions can unlock additional rewards, depending on the VIP level.
