Journalist Jez Corden from Windows Central reviewed the alpha version of the new Fable and shared his impressions during the Xbox Two podcast.
He mentioned that he is uncertain about the relevance of the version he saw, but even at this early stage of development, the game showcased an impressive level of quality.
The project significantly reflects the influence of former CD Projekt Red developers. Paweł Kapała, who previously worked as the lead game designer for the combat system at the Polish studio, collaborated with Playground Games (the studio developing Fable 4) for some time before moving to Elsewhere Entertainment (Activision).
According to Corden, the combat system in the new Fable will feature elements familiar to players of The Witcher 3: spins, dodges, and smooth transitions between attacks and finishing moves. At the same time, the journalist emphasized that the developers are crafting their own unique mechanics.
In June, Eidos-Montreal, known for the Deus Ex series and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, joined the development of Fable 4.
Microsoft announced the reboot of the series in July 2020. After a long hiatus, the company unveiled a full trailer in the summer of 2024 and planned a release for 2025.
In the early 2000s, the Fable series by Peter Molyneux marked a breakthrough in the role-playing game genre. The developers created a unique universe where players could not only battle monsters but also marry, buy real estate, and influence the development of the fantasy kingdom of Albion. Distinctive features of the series included British humor, moral dilemmas, and a consequence system where every hero's choice would alter their appearance and NPC attitudes.
