GOG has announced a significant initiative aimed at updating and adapting classic video games — the GOG Preservation program. The company has already upgraded 100 classic titles to ensure they run smoothly on modern operating systems.
“The GOG Preservation Program guarantees that classic games will remain accessible on contemporary systems even after developers have ceased support. By preserving these iconic titles, GOG helps you retain and relive the memories that shaped you — without DRM protection and with professional technical support,” the company stated.
Each game in the program has received a special designation and a detailed change log. Players can check the list of technical updates and enhancements for each product. The first wave of revamped projects includes notable franchises such as Resident Evil, Warcraft, Dragon Age, Fallout, System Shock, and others.
According to the Video Game History Foundation, 87% of games released before 2010 are currently unavailable to modern users.
