At the Unreal Fest conference, Steve Allison, the general manager of Epic Games Store, discussed the company's plans for enhancing the mobile version of the store.
Until now, the mobile Epic Games Store primarily featured the company's flagship titles — Fortnite and Fall Guys. Allison shared that Epic intends to significantly expand the platform, aiming to introduce up to 50 third-party games by the end of 2024.
Epic Games aims to adapt its successful strategy of offering free games, previously implemented on the PC version of the store, to mobile devices. This approach has allowed the company to attract millions of users on personal computers.
In addition to the free games initiative, Epic Games is preparing a range of other innovations for the mobile platform. In the first half of 2025, the company plans to launch tools that will enable developers to independently publish their games.
Moreover, Epic Games is working on integrating social features and cross-platform gameplay. These capabilities are expected to be introduced by the end of 2025.
One of the first third-party titles to appear in the mobile Epic Games Store will be Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition, which is scheduled for release in late 2024.
Additionally, Epic Games has announced a new program called "launch everywhere with Epic." This initiative will reduce royalties to 3.5% for games using the Unreal Engine that launch on Epic Games Store simultaneously with or before other platforms.
Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, criticized the policies of Apple and Google regarding mobile app stores. He accused these companies of creating obstacles for developers and imposing "excessive taxation."
