Stellantis (a group encompassing 18 automotive brands) has unveiled its latest development in electric vehicles — the STLA Frame platform. This new platform is specifically designed for full-size pickups and SUVs, aiming to deliver "best-in-class capabilities."
The STLA Frame platform serves as a flexible foundation for various powertrain options. While it will be utilized for fully electric models, it also accommodates hybrid, gasoline, and even hydrogen vehicles.
One of the most compelling features of the STLA Frame platform is its exceptional range. With an estimated range of up to 500 miles (approximately 805 km), it alleviates range anxiety, a common concern among potential EV buyers. This range is comparable to that of internal combustion engine vehicles. This impressive performance is achieved through liquid-cooled battery packs with capacities ranging from 159 kWh to over 200 kWh, positioned in the expanded central section of the platform.
The STLA Frame platform also boasts high performance capabilities. It supports a maximum payload of up to 6350 kg and a useful load of up to 1225 kg. It is designed to handle the heavy tasks expected of pickups and SUVs. With support for fast charging at up to 350 kW, adding 160 km of range takes just 10 minutes. Vehicles built on this new platform will feature bi-directional charging, allowing them to power your home or feed energy back into the grid.
The first vehicle to utilize the STLA Frame platform will be the electric Ram 1500 REV pickup, expected to hit the market in the first half of 2025. This pickup will be available in both fully electric and hybrid versions. Furthermore, the STLA Frame platform is anticipated to serve as the foundation for a series of upcoming Jeep and Ram models, including electric versions of popular SUVs like the Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee.
