Volvo has shared details about the updated version of its flagship SUV, the XC90, and unveiled specifics regarding the market launch of the new fully electric EX90.
The refreshed 2025 Volvo XC90 is a hybrid SUV with a 7-seat configuration. The plug-in hybrid XC90 can travel up to 70 km on electric power alone, while the hybrid powertrain combined with the gasoline engine offers a range exceeding 800 km for longer journeys. For the Ukrainian market, a gasoline engine B5 equipped with mild hybrid technology will be available. Featuring a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter-generator, the new XC90 consumes 15% less fuel.
The vehicle is powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and a 400-volt, three-layer lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 18.8 kWh (14.7 kWh of usable energy). The most powerful XC90, the all-wheel-drive PHEV, delivers 310 horsepower with a torque of 400 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The built-in charger with a capacity of 6.4 kW takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery, while using a standard outlet requires 7 hours for a complete charge.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 features a refreshed front design. It includes a new hood and bumper, and the famous Volvo Thor's Hammer headlights are now slimmer. Changes have also been made to the wheel rims, rear lighting, and the interior. Volvo explains that the updated design aims to better align the XC90 with its electric vehicle lineup. The car comes with an upgraded suspension featuring a double-wishbone system in the front.
Additional new features include a new Mulberry Red body color inspired by Scandinavian autumn. Two new interior materials are introduced: Nordico, a leather-free material, and Herringbone Weave, made from recycled polyester.
The vehicle features a central 11.2-inch touchscreen display with a higher resolution — pixel density has been increased by 21%. Managing the use of the electric motor in the plug-in hybrid is now even simpler. Through the “Driving Modes” on the main screen, users can select the “Pure” mode along with other options, allowing for all-electric driving with just a single touch. Google services are integrated into the infotainment system, providing access to Google Maps, Assistant, and Play, and there's also the option to connect an iPhone via a USB-C cable to use Apple CarPlay. The trims available remain Core, Plus, and Ultra.
The new Volvo EX90 is expected to arrive in Ukraine in the first quarter of 2025, with test drives starting in January. Interested customers can already place pre-orders at official Volvo dealerships in Ukraine.
