Currently, Samsung is one of the most recognized manufacturers of foldable smartphones. However, while Samsung's devices fold twice, its competitors have already started releasing triple-fold smartphones. To keep pace, the Korean giant is also developing a similar device.
Sources from Korea indicated that Samsung may launch a smartphone that folds three times by 2025. The company has already developed the technology, and the supply chain is prepared for the new product. Nevertheless, final confirmation is expected from the MX (Mobile eXperience) division, which is responsible for foldable phones.
According to the same report, orders for foldable OLED panels have declined by more than 10%, as demand for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 has not met expectations.
Shipments of foldable OLED panels from Samsung Display in 2024 are projected to reach 12 million units. This is a 40% decrease compared to the 20 million shipped last year. This includes screens for both Galaxy products and other companies that rely on Samsung as a supplier, such as Xiaomi, vivo, and Oppo.
For the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 in particular, around 8 million displays will be allocated, which is below the anticipated 10 million sales. Sales volumes for all devices, both new and old, have been declining each year. According to the report, Samsung may try to counteract this with a more affordable Galaxy Flip, making the form factor accessible to a broader audience.
