Recently, a new piece about "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl" appeared on the Radio Times Gaming channel. The highlight of the video was not only a preview of the game itself but also an exclusive interview with the game's technical producer, Evgeny Kulik, who revealed new details about the project.
Evgeny Kulik shared that the game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.1. However, GSC Game World has significantly altered the engine's basic tools to create a vast world and optimize the game for PC and Xbox.
During the conversation, the developer also shared details about the updated A-Life 2.0 system:
“It all depends on the faction or type of monster you encounter. Some protect their territory because our A-Life 2.0 system is built on several pillars. There is an offline mode where certain events happen in the background. As you play, you might witness the outcomes of skirmishes or battles with mutants and the like. Some factions or mutants have their own habitats, while others may simply wander across the map. Therefore, life in the Zone unfolds both in the player's view and out of sight,” Kulik explained.
While completing side quests, the Radio Times Gaming journalist noticed similarities between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the popular mod Anomaly. Evgeny confirmed that GSC Game World is actively looking into the work of the modding community—several mod authors have already joined the development team. He also noted that the studio is creating a special set of tools for future modifications—ranging from minor changes to major transformations of the game.
GSC Game World will soon present a roadmap for upcoming updates and additional content after the game’s release.
The Radio Times Gaming journalist noted the realistic behavior of the monsters. Flesh unexpectedly attacks with leaps, while the Bloodsucker can ambush from the shadows. Battles require a tactical approach and effective use of ammunition. He was also impressed by the high-quality sound design; each weapon has a unique sound, and the Ukrainian voice acting enhances the immersive atmosphere.
Let’s remember, the release of "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl" is approaching—set for November 20. The game will launch on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X/S, and will also be available immediately on Game Pass. In an interview with GamesRadar, the development team stated that they are making every effort to ensure a high-quality release. At the same time, they plan to actively work on technical updates in the weeks following the game’s launch.
