The highly controversial electric pickup Tesla Cybertruck has encountered yet another issue. The additional "Range Extender," which was supposed to significantly enhance the vehicle's range, has been postponed. Furthermore, it will now provide a lesser additional range than initially promised.

When Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, it promoted a tri-motor version with a range exceeding 805 km. Unfortunately, when the company finally revealed the official specifications, the tri-motor Cybertruck came with a starting price of $100,000 and a range of only 515 km. To address the range concerns, Tesla announced a "Range Extender," which adds an extra battery pack to the pickup's body.

Initially, Tesla claimed that this Range Extender would boost the range of the dual-motor Cybertruck from 547 km to over 756 km, while the tri-motor Cybertruck's range would increase from 515 km to over 708 km. Now, those figures have changed, and the company has revised them downward.

The "Range Extender" will now provide approximately 708 km of range for the dual-motor Cybertruck, which is 40 km less than originally estimated. The range of the tri-motor version with the extender remains unchanged at 708 km with standard tires but decreases to 668 km with off-road tires.

Additionally, Tesla has pushed back the release date of the "Range Extender" from early 2025 to mid-2025. And it won't come cheap. The Range Extender is expected to cost $16,000, and it must be installed (and subsequently removed) at a Tesla service center.
