The recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro is set to become the most expensive modern gaming console—despite lacking a disc drive and vertical stand, it is expected to retail for $700.
Following the announcement, Sony faced a wave of criticism, with some gamers even suggesting a boycott; meanwhile, judging by the sales rankings of the detachable disc drive for the PlayStation 5, it has been canceled before it even started.
The day after the announcement, the drive, which was launched alongside the new PS5 Slim model in November 2023, was completely sold out at Best Buy and ranked in the top 8 bestsellers on Amazon US (it has now dropped to 16th place but still outranks the Xbox Series X).

It's worth noting that the PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be available on November 7, features a more powerful graphics processor compared to the standard console, enhanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling. Sony has also announced that "approximately 40-50 games" will receive updates for the PS5 Pro at launch.
