Following the update to iOS 18, some Apple iPhone users have reported a decrease in battery performance and overheating. Nevertheless, the issue does not appear to be widespread or critical.

At least a few users on X (formerly Twitter) have complained about battery issues after updating their iPhones to iOS 18. One user stated that the battery was "dying before my eyes," while another simply described the battery life on iOS 18 as "terrible." Another posted an image of an exploding car with the caption: "My iPhone 11 with a healthy battery at 75% after updating to iOS 18."

There are also reports of a rapid decline in battery percentage over time: "I updated the software to iOS 18, and the battery percentage dropped so quickly"; "It’s been an hour since I charged it to 80% and didn’t use it much, but now it’s at 67%."

However, other users are not experiencing battery problems, or even note that battery life has improved. They report that their smartphones are functioning perfectly without any excessive discharge or battery life reduction. One user commented: "Thanks to iOS 18, my battery lasts much longer :)"

From some complaints, it can be inferred that users of older smartphones, such as the iPhone 11, are more likely to encounter issues. However, the problems could be attributed to the extended use of these devices. Previously, when similar complaints about iOS 17 arose, Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, a researcher at ZDNet, explained:

“Installing a new OS on an iPhone triggers many background processes, from indexing to battery recalibration, which can take hours or even days.”

Therefore, in the event of problems, it may be best to simply wait for the battery's performance to normalize. Concern should only arise if issues persist for more than a few days.
