The Battery Share feature is a wireless charging function for devices using Google Pixel. It appears that this functionality does not work while the Pixel 9 itself is being charged, unlike previous generations.

The reverse wireless charging, Battery Share, has been available since the Google Pixel 5, making it five years old now. Throughout this time, the feature operated even when the smartphone was plugged into a wall outlet. This meant that while the Pixel was charging, users could place their wireless earbuds on it for charging as well. However, with the Pixel 9, this is no longer possible—now it only works when the phone is not charging.

This limitation affects the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pro XL models. The foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold completely lacks support for Battery Share, meaning it does not have reverse wireless charging capability at all.

Battery Share functions on the mentioned three smartphones, but only when they are disconnected from a power source. If they are charging, the operating system clearly notifies users that "Battery Share is unavailable during charging."

This pop-up will appear even if the phone is fully charged but still plugged in. Certainly, Battery Share is useful on the go when there’s a need to charge another gadget, but it's also a convenient option during the smartphone's network charging.

Android Headlines suggests that the degradation of this feature might be linked to a potential decline in battery performance. At the very least, the reverse charging mode certainly does not benefit it. This is not the first issue regarding the battery recharge feature in the new Pixel 9 series. Earlier reports indicated that the Pixel 9 Pro XL has problems with stable wireless charging, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold does not support Google’s wireless charger.
