The flagship graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 was released in October 2022. According to retailers, NVIDIA is set to discontinue its production this October.

Despite its high price, power consumption, and issues related to power connectors that plagued the NVIDIA RTX 4090, the graphics card remains a benchmark for gaming performance and is highly coveted among gamers. It is expected to soon be replaced by the RTX 5090.

As per reports from Chinese sources, NVIDIA plans to halt the production of the GeForce RTX 4090 and the China-exclusive GeForce RTX 4090 D around October 2024. After that, the company and its partners will continue selling existing stock of these graphics cards, followed by the debut of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5090 D, reportedly scheduled for early 2025. Besides gaming, the GeForce RTX 4090 is also popular for artificial intelligence work, and this sector may experience a temporary shortage. A price increase for the graphics card is anticipated, likely no later than December.

The NVIDIA RTX 4090 is memorable for its large size, which was compared to various objects at launch. The price, currently starting at ₴63,000 in Ukraine, has also reached record levels among consumer graphics cards. Its default TDP of 450W can strain the owner's budget, especially given current electricity prices, and the melting power connectors observed earlier this year could permanently damage this expensive device.

The NVIDIA RTX 5090 is expected to be 48% faster in gaming performance. Data on power consumption varies: different sources indicate it could either increase or decrease. Preliminary reports suggest the graphics card will feature 28 GB of GDDR7 memory with a speed of 28 Gbps.
