The game The Witcher 4, known by the codename Polaris, is still in the pre-production phase, but more than 400 employees of CD Projekt RED are already working on it.
"In the first quarter of 2024, we focused on further developing our projects. The largest of them in terms of team size, as well as progress in current work, is Polaris. The future first part of the new The Witcher trilogy. Currently, over 400 people are working on the game, and we plan to enter the production phase in the second half of the year," said the company's financial director Petr Nilubovich.
This corresponds to the company's January statements of intent to bring in 400 developers to work on the game by summer and start full production in 2024. In the slide accompanying the latest financial report, CD Projekt notes that 407 developers were working on Polaris as of April 30, 2024, compared to 56 developers brought in for Cyberpunk Orion, 39 for The Witcher Sirius spinoff, and 20 for the completely new game Hadar.
Little is currently known about Polaris, except for the fact that it will be the first game in a "new AAA RPG trilogy." The game will also feature "new gameplay elements and mechanics" that will set it apart from previous Witcher games.
