Microsoft launches Recall - artificial intelligence will record everything done on a PC for quick recovery

Microsoft launches Recall for Windows 11, a new tool that tracks everything a user sees and does on their computer. It allows users to search for and recover anything that was once done on the device.

The range of features of Recall, internally known by Microsoft as AI Explorer, is incredibly wide. It includes logging what is done in applications, tracking communication during meetings, remembering all websites visited by the user, and more. All you need to do to revisit these steps is to take the Recall action, which is similar to searching using artificial intelligence. It will provide a snapshot of the desired period of time.

Everything done on the PC is displayed on a timeline that can be scrolled. You can also search for live meetings and videos thanks to Live Captions, which transcribe and even translate language.

Microsoft attempted something similar, but less powerful, in Windows 10 with Timeline, but discontinued this feature in 2021. There is also a very similar program for Mac called Rewind. The software works on Mac computers with M processors and, like Recall, records everything that is done, listens to all meetings, and provides access to a chatbot to find something. However, Recall will have deep integration with Windows, whereas Rewind is a third-party application that needs to be installed and granted system permissions.

Recall will not work with all computers running Windows 11. You will need to purchase one of several new Copilot Plus computers based on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips, which have a neural processor (NPU) required for Recall to work.

Microsoft assures users that the recall index remains local and private on the device. Users will be able to pause recordings and delete individual content.
