Starting with iOS 14.5, Apple required app developers to inform users about broader tracking so they could choose to agree or opt out of tracking. In 2021, Google apps stopped using certain tracking methods (IDFA) to comply with the requirements and should not show this notification. However, soon YouTube will start asking iOS users if they want to enable "more personalized advertising" through the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) message.
In the near future, YouTube for iOS will display a one-time permission request - allow YouTube to track your activity in apps and on websites of other companies? - with two options:
- Allow. In this case, app activity will be linked to third-party apps and sites to show personalized advertising and analytics.
- Do not track. In this case, app activity will not be linked to third-party apps and sites for personalized advertising and analytics. Advertising in the app will be less personalized, which may result in displaying less relevant ads or more frequent ad repetition.
This request will not appear to YouTube Premium subscribers and users with child accounts on YouTube.
Later, the user will be able to change their permission through the iOS settings section: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
