Meta has officially unveiled its new headset, the Quest 3S — a blend of the Quest 2 and Quest 3, but at a more affordable price point.
The Meta Quest 3S offers the same mixed reality features and performance as the Quest 3, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and Touch Plus controllers.
New features include improved battery life (2.5 hours compared to 2.2 for the Quest 3), larger dimensions, the absence of a depth sensing device, and displays with lower resolution (1832 x 1920 per eye).
The Quest 3S also features a dedicated "Action Button," allowing users to toggle between immersion mode and environmental viewing through the visor.
Additionally, the Quest 3S is compatible with a library of thousands of Meta applications and games, as well as upcoming exclusives for the Quest 3 and 3S, such as Batman: Arkham Shadow.
Pre-orders for the Quest 3S began yesterday, with the official launch set for October 15. The base model of the Meta Quest 3S with 128GB will cost $299.99, while the 256GB and 512GB versions will retail for $399.99 and $499.99, respectively.
Meta also announced a price reduction for the 512GB Quest 3, dropping it from $650 to $500, and will discontinue both the Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
