Alongside the unveiling of the autonomous taxi, Tesla also showcased a new iteration of its humanoid robot.

The video demonstrates how Optimus effortlessly carries out everyday tasks (for example, taking out the trash or watering plants), but the most intriguing part is when the robot takes on the role of a waiter/bartender — serving guests candy and pouring drinks.

“Optimus will walk among us. You can approach the robots right now and they will serve you drinks,” Elon Musk stated from the stage.

He also mentioned that Tesla Optimus could easily walk a dog, mow the lawn, or sit with children — all at a projected price between $20,000 and $30,000.

Musk announced the development of humanoid robots for the first time three years ago, with prototypes revealed in October 2022 — one functioning model that barely moved, and another on a stand waving to the audience. However, during the promotional video that followed the presentation, the robots appeared more confident in walking and interacting with their environment.

Last year, Tesla introduced the Optimus Gen 2 version — “more human-like” with 11 degrees of freedom in its arms and tactile sensors on its fingers for object manipulation. The robot is also 10% lighter and 30% faster than its predecessor.

In April, Musk stated that by the end of 2024, Optimus would begin performing “useful tasks,” with the potential for it to be made available for sale in the following year.
