Google is developing a new email protection system that will enable users to create disposable email addresses or aliases. These can be shared with other users, programs, or websites, and the received emails will be forwarded to the main address, thereby preserving its privacy.
The potential new feature was discovered by the authors of Android Authority in the code of the latest release of Google Play Services 24.45.33. (and later in the autocomplete settings menu), marked as “Shielded Email.”
The main advantage of this update is that websites and other services will not inundate your primary inbox with spam, while the email address will gain additional protection against being compromised in data breaches.
It is still unclear when Google will begin testing the feature and whether it will eventually be rolled out to the general public, but the concept itself seems promising.
