For Microsoft Windows 10 users who do not wish to upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase a subscription for Extended Security Updates (ESU), there is now an alternative available. The company 0Patch offers paid updates for Windows 10 at least until 2030. Similar to ESU, which provides only security updates, 0Patch delivers security micro-patches for multiple operating systems that can be applied without rebooting.
"Micro-patches," as they are called in the company, look like regular Microsoft fixes. Official system updates usually include the same improvements, if not more, but they are delivered later than 0Patch. Sometimes the alternative provider even points out errors in the official patch.
Microsoft offers essentially the same service in the form of ESU, possibly with better security coverage. However, ESU support for most versions of Windows is limited to about three additional years, and there are no free levels. On the other hand, 0Patch promises to support Windows 10 until 2030 with free and Pro patches (mostly paid).
Educational clients get Microsoft ESU for a minimum of $7 for three years, while corporate clients pay a minimum of $427 for the same period. 0Patch offers a yearly subscription for business clients at €25 for the Pro version and €35 for Enterprise.
Many people strive to avoid unnecessary changes in hardware, and Windows 10 continues to maintain a strong position in the market. As of October 2023, Windows 10 had a market share of 71.64%, which has now dropped to 66.1%, according to StatCounter statistics.
