It seems that Apple is planning to expand its smart home product lineup by introducing a smart security camera. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the company aims to begin production of an IP camera for smart homes in 2026, with a target of selling over 10 million units annually.
According to Kuo, the camera "will be designed for seamless integration with other Apple hardware products via wireless connection" and is likely to be closely tied to Apple Intelligence and the Siri voice assistant.
A security camera is a logical choice for a new product as Apple searches for its next big hit among smart home devices. These devices are among the fastest-growing types of home technology, offering clear advantages and potential for use in every household, while also providing an excellent opportunity to develop Apple's ecosystem in the smart home device category.
For instance, if you have an Apple Home security camera, it would be convenient to have additional Apple devices, such as HomePod or Apple TV, to use them as a home hub for recording video and streaming it to your Apple TV.
In addition to revenue from premium devices, cameras could generate a steady income stream from subscriptions. The HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) service, part of the iCloud plan, stores recorded video from the cameras on your iCloud account. The number of supported cameras depends on your subscription, which can cost up to $11 a month. To use HKSV, an Apple home hub, such as a HomePod or Apple TV, is also required to analyze the video and send notifications about people, pets, vehicles, and packages.
