Apple has launched the latest version of its professional video editing software — Final Cut Pro 11. This update introduces new features, including those powered by artificial intelligence.
The Magnetic Mask feature in Final Cut Pro 11 enables users to isolate people or objects in a clip without needing a green screen.
The Transcribe to Captions function utilizes a large language model developed by Apple to transcribe audio recordings.
The new Final Cut Pro 11 also allows editing of spatial video recorded on the iPhone 15 Pro series, iPhone 16, or Canon R7 paired with the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens. Users can import spatial video, apply effects, adjust color, and configure depth positioning. Final Cut Pro 11 will also display the viewpoints for the left and right eyes on compatible Mac displays and will be compatible with Vision Pro.
The new Final Cut Pro 11 will be operational on all Macs running macOS Sonoma with at least 8GB of RAM, though some features will require Apple Silicon chips.
Apple is also releasing an update for the iPad version of Final Cut — Final Cut Pro 2.1, which will require an M1 chip or newer, or an iPad mini (with A17 Pro) along with iPadOS 17.6 or a later version.
The iPad version has received enhancements for lighting and color, enabling precise adjustments to color, color balance, contrast, and brightness. Apple has also introduced a new vertical gesture for adjusting the clip height on the timeline.
iPad users will also gain access to the Live Drawing feature, which allows for animation to be added to videos. Timeline support for recordings at 90, 100, and 120 frames per second with the iPhone 16 Pro will also be available.
Apple has announced a new version of the Final Cut Camera app for iPhone and iPad. Final Cut Camera 1.1 now supports HEVC files in Apple Log, offers LUT previews during recording, and includes a new level indicator with tilt and roll metrics as well as a crosshair for top-down shooting.
Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac is priced at $299 for a one-time purchase. Apple offers a 90-day free trial to new users. Existing paid subscribers will receive all new updates at no additional charge. Final Cut Pro for iPad is available for $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
