The company CrowdStrike, which caused millions of computers worldwide to fail due to a botched update, offered some affected users an Uber Eats gift card. And guess what? The cards don't work.

The company acknowledged that it forced customers to do extra work due to the incident on July 19. Here's what was stated in an email:

"We sincerely thank you [presumably for your patience] and apologize for the inconvenienceā€¦ As a token of our appreciation, your next cup of coffee or midnight snack is on us!"

The email was sent on Tuesday from the address of Daniel Bernard, CrowdStrike's Chief Commercial Officer. As noted by its clients, the voucher was valued at Ā£7.75, or approximately $10 at the current exchange rate.

Some hurried to redeem this gift card on Wednesday; however, instead of free food, they encountered an error message stating that the voucher had been canceled. TechCrunch journalists also checked the voucher on the Uber Eats page, yielding the same outcome: the gift card "has been canceled by the issuing party and is no longer valid."

CrowdStrike representative Kevin Benacchi confirmed that the company sent out the gift cards.

"We sent them to our teammates and partners who assisted clients in this situation. Uber flagged this as fraudulent due to the high level of usage."

The company also published an apology from its CEO George Kurtz on its website:

"CrowdStrike understands the seriousness and impact of the situation. There is nothing more important to me than the trust and confidence our customers and partners have in CrowdStrike. As we resolve this incident, I am committed to ensuring full transparency regarding how this occurred and the steps we are taking to prevent a recurrence."

It is not reported whether CrowdStrike has compensated for the canceled $10 "snack" from Uber in any way.
