Apple has released the release candidates for its operating systems iOS 18 and watchOS 11, detailing features during the "It's Glowtime" presentation, as well as announcing iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and other software products.
It has been officially announced that on September 16, Apple will launch the final version of iOS 18 for all compatible iPhone models starting from the iPhone XR and newer, as well as watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and macOS Sequoia. The previous version can be downloaded via the "Settings" app.
In iOS 18, users will be able to freely rearrange apps and widgets on the home screen and modify their appearance. Apple is also introducing an updated Control Center alongside a new password management application and support for satellite messaging. New messaging effects, an updated "Photos" app, and new ways to organize the "Inbox" folder in the "Mail" app will also be included.
Messages will receive RC Services to enhance conversations with Android users, an option to schedule text messages for later, new text effects, and satellite messaging capabilities when cellular service is unavailable.
The Passwords program for sign-ins, access keys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes will now allow users to block and hide apps, preventing access without re-authentication through Face ID or Touch ID.
Apple Intelligence
The iPhone manufacturer will introduce new intelligent features in iOS 18.1, which is slated for public release in October. Features of Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and all four new iPhone 16 models.
iOS 18.1 is already accessible in a developer beta and includes features like text correction, notification summarization, message reply suggestions, call recording and transcription, removal of objects from photos, AI-generated images, and more.
Siri will gain improved understanding of natural speech and context. The personal assistant will integrate with ChatGPT to handle more complex queries.
Initially, Apple Intelligence will only be available in English for both the device and Siri, with these features marked as "beta" even in the publicly released iOS 18.1. Apple has announced that support for additional languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish, is planned for next year. Unofficially, some functions of Apple Intelligence, such as Genmoji and Image Playgrounds, are expected to debut only in December.
Camera
The camera on the iPhone 16 Pro has received a ProRes 4K 120 fps mode. The same frame rate is available in Full HD for Slo-mo. Apple is also upgrading the QuickTake mode from 1080p to 4K.
New camera features in iOS 18 for the iPhone 16 include the ability to pause video recording. A new "Pause" button stops the recording and resumes it with a second press, allowing users to "edit" multiple clips into one video without needing to create separate videos and then combine them. This pause feature has been included in the current release candidate and is expected to be available for all four new iPhone 16 models.
The iPhone 16 Pro will be able to record video and audio for playback on Apple's Vision Pro virtual reality headset. Additionally, the functionality with filters has been enhanced, allowing for customization. Filters can be applied automatically, and settings from one photo can be transferred to others.
The Visual Intelligence feature will enable instant identification of everything the camera "sees." This mode can be activated with a new camera button, and its capabilities were demonstrated during yesterday's presentation.

watchOS 11
With this OS update, Apple Watch users will gain new interactive Smart Stack widgets and Live Activities with iPhone. The update includes a new Vitals app providing users with improved health status information based on data collected by the Apple Watch.
The Fitness app will offer more customizable activity modes, allowing users to set rest days and various goals for specific days of the week. Apple Fitness+ will introduce a new "For You" section and enhanced achievements. Additionally, new watch faces and the Apple Translate app for the watch will be available.
Updates will be available for all Watch Series starting from the sixth generation, all Watch Ultra models, and the second generation of Watch SE.
