The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, announced that a new generation factory will soon start operating, designed for the production of smartphones. It is located in Changping, Beijing.
The new factory will be a "dark factory" that can operate 24 hours a day without people. In addition, the machines in the factory can collaborate with each other. The factory can also create a dust-free environment thanks to dust removal at the micron level.
The production quality at the factory will be controlled by intelligent machines developed in-house. It is claimed that the automated production process will allow for the manufacture of one smartphone every second. Theoretically, if the factory can operate continuously round the clock throughout the year, its production capacity will be 31.5 million smartphones per year.
Xiaomi has invested 2.4 billion yuan (about $330 million) in the development of the new manufacturing process. The new factory in Changping occupies a construction area of 81,000 square meters. It has been certified as a "national enterprise for intelligent manufacturing" with an annual production capacity of 10 million flagship smartphones. This factory will be involved in the production of future foldable phones - Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Filp.
