Google has begun to roll out the new version of Android 15 among Pixel devices. This operating system introduces new privacy features, security tools, and enhancements for high-end devices and tablets.
In fact, Android 15 was initially launched last month through the Android Open Source project, and Vivo smartphone owners received the update with this OS even before Pixel device buyers. Only now has Google announced that Android 15 is finally arriving on Pixels along with a range of Pixel-specific features.
New Features of Android 15
One of the key innovations in Android 15 is the ability to create a "private space" for apps that you might want to hide from other people who might access your phone. Google cites examples like social media apps, dating apps, or banking apps. According to Google, apps placed in the private space will not show up in recent apps, notifications, or settings. To access this space, additional authentication will be required. If needed, you can even "hide the existence of the private space from view on your phone."
On high-end devices and tablets, Android 15 will allow users to pin and unpin the taskbar for easier access to their apps. If you have specific apps that you frequently use together, you can set up a pair of apps and access them with a single icon.
Additionally, Google is opening up more camera options for third-party apps, such as more detailed flash control. You will also be able to log into apps that use access keys with a single tap. Carrier messaging apps will now support satellite messaging when you are out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
Many Android devices—not just those on Android 15—will receive the Theft Detection Lock feature, which will automatically lock your phone if it detects (using AI) that it has been stolen. Google is also adding a Remote Lock feature that allows you to lock your phone using another Android phone, your phone number, and "a simple security check." The company states that "most" devices on Android 10 and later will receive these features, with some users already having them.
Google is also starting the rollout of the new October Pixel feature update. It includes Night Sight for Instagram to enhance low-light photography, and more controls for Audio Magic Eraser. In the "coming weeks," Google will also add a feature that allows users to transfer media from a Pixel tablet to a Pixel phone by keeping the devices close to each other.
