YouTube has gotten a massive update: sleep timer, improved mini player and other improvements

Google is rolling out a series of new features and enhancements for its YouTube applications and services across all supported platforms.

One of the key innovations is the introduction of a sleep timer for all users of the YouTube mobile app. Previously, this feature was exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers. Now, everyone can set the app to automatically close after watching videos at night. Users can choose predefined time limits ranging from 10 minutes to an hour or set it to stop after the current video finishes.

Google has also improved the mini-player functionality in the YouTube mobile apps. Users can now move and resize the mini-player while simultaneously watching a video and scrolling through the feed of other clips.

Changes have also been implemented for YouTube playlists. The mobile app now allows users to share links with others to collaboratively create playlists. Soon, YouTube TV users will be able to add videos to playlists using a QR code. Google intends to introduce a voting feature for videos in playlists in 2024.

The company has launched new tools for personalizing playlists. Users will be able to create their own thumbnails for playlists using their photos or by generating them with artificial intelligence.

Later this year, special icons will appear in the YouTube and YouTube Music mobile apps to celebrate user achievements, such as being the most active listener of a particular artist.

Among other updates are the ability to adjust video playback speed in increments of 0.05x and visual improvements to the app's interface for easier navigation.
