The password manager NordPass has released a new ranking of the most popular passwords in the world, showing that the situation hasn't improved year after year.
For the second consecutive year, "123456" tops the list, having held a leading position at least five times overall.
QWERTY remains on the list, and among the more intriguing entries are "iloveyou," "fuckyou," and passwords reflecting people's interests, such as "pokemon," "naruto," "samsung," and "minecraft." At least some individuals are trying to compete in creativity by choosing supposedly secure passwords like "P@ssw0rd" (which can be cracked in under a second, by the way). The breakdown by country is also interesting: in the UK, "liverpool" made it to the top popular passwords, in Poland — "agnieszka," and in Australia — "boobies."
NordPass states that the ranking was formed using a database from "public sources" totaling 2.5 TB, with some data sourced from the dark web.
