YouTuber xLetalis and modder Glassfish have revealed information about another cut ending of The Witcher 3, nine years after the game was released. In short, CD Projekt Red removed a part of The Witcher 3 where Yennefer "betrayed" the Lodge of Sorceresses to Emperor Emhyr.
Enthusiasts were able to make this discovery after so long thanks to the new REDkit modification creation tool. In the final part of the game, after Geralt defeats Eredin, it quickly becomes clear that Avallac'h took Ciri to the tower on Undvik for her to defeat the White Frost. Subsequently, regardless of the player's choice of ending, the fate of the Lodge of Sorceresses is left unresolved. This cut sequence took place between the battle with Eredin and the culmination of the game in the tower.
In the extended final sequence, Geralt is actually disabled for several days after the battle at Undvik. He wakes up in a Nilfgaardian medical tent with a couple of the emperor's physicians arguing about his chances of survival. After a conversation with Yennefer, he realizes that Ciri has disappeared and suspects Avallac'h of betrayal.
It seems that the cut part could have contained 15-20 minutes of additional dialogues and investigations, where Geralt could have talked to Triss and Yennefer, spoken with several unique groups of Nilfgaardian soldiers, and even witnessed how the jarls would have come for Crach an Craite's body.
A surprise occurs as the player goes with Yennefer to the Lodge members to find Ciri's location. Some missing animation data is believed to indicate what was supposed to happen for sure, but apparently Yennefer sabotages the divination ritual so that Philippa, Fringilla, and Margarita can capture the Nilfgaardians - later the sorceresses will be executed. Yennefer also gives Triss a chance to escape. Like the scene with Crach's body, there are several small variations of how this can happen, depending on Geralt's previous decisions in the game.
It seems that this sequence was close to making it into the game: full voice acting and detailed elaboration sharply contrast with the roughly hewn previous Moon mission prototype planned for Cyberpunk 2077. The Glassfish Brothers in Arms modification for fixing bugs and restoring deleted content is available on Witcher 3 Nexus.
