Slawomir Mentzen, a Polish right-liberal politician and presidential candidate from the far-right party "Confederation" (Konfederacja), has announced his intention to make Poland a global leader in the cryptocurrency sector. In his social media post, he stated:
“If I become the president of Poland, our country will become a cryptocurrency paradise with friendly regulations, low taxes, and support from banks and regulators,” said the politician in a statement.
He also promised to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve in Poland, mirroring an initiative proposed by the elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
Mentzen is also known for mocking the "Five Points of PiS" before the 2019 European Parliament elections, where he delivered a lecture on political marketing, during which he listed the unofficial so-called "Five Points of the Confederation": “We do not want Jews, homosexuals, abortions, taxes, or the European Union.” The politician has German roots.
In 2017, fewer than one million Poles owned Bitcoin, whereas now that number exceeds 7 million.
Mentzen himself holds 33.7 BTC, which he has been trading since 2013.
The presidential elections in Poland are set to take place in May 2025.
