Millionaires from OnlyFans: Hetmantsev reminded of the need to pay taxes (and fines)

Chairman of the Financial, Tax and Customs Policy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Daniil Hetmantsev, continues to discuss the phenomenon of cashing in on geese. However, in this case, the focus will be on the female geese.

According to Hetmantsev, the Ukrainian tax service has received information from the OnlyFans platform regarding Ukrainian creators of paid content and the amounts they have earned. It turns out that Ukrainians are actively engaged in creating premium content on the platform, with the number of accounts increasing by an average of three times each year. This content is in high demand, generating significant income—tech professionals with the highest average salaries might feel envious.

“For instance, a citizen identified as 'S' has earned over $4 million for creating content on the OnlyFans platform over several years.”

Interestingly, in the selective statistics presented by the head of the tax committee, only millionaire women are mentioned—there is not a single mention of a male millionaire.

One can only be happy for the women who, even in the challenging economic times of war, manage to earn millions of dollars by leveraging their talents and abilities, without resorting to corrupt activities. At the same time, Daniil Hetmantsev reminds that foreign income must be declared and taxed accordingly.

“According to the provisions of the Tax Code of Ukraine, a taxpayer receiving foreign income—which refers to income from sources outside Ukraine—must submit a tax declaration at the end of the reporting tax year and declare such amounts with their relevant taxation,” writes the tax and customs policy expert.

Thus, Hetmantsev “strongly recommends” fulfilling the “tax obligation”—declaring income and paying taxes.

It should be added that the deadline for declaring income earned in 2023 has already passed. The respective declaration needed to be submitted by May 1, 2024. The personal income tax indicated in the property declaration must be paid by August 1. Therefore, these deadlines have already elapsed. As a result, anyone who has not declared their income from OnlyFans will now have to pay penalties in addition to the taxes owed. In this case, one might need to pay nearly half of their earnings to the government and face an unpleasant experience with law enforcement. It's unlikely they can evade this, considering that “the tax service has obtained information about Ukrainian citizens—creators of paid content on OnlyFans.”

“Failure to submit a tax declaration within the legally established timeframe serves as grounds for the reassessment of tax based on the earned income at a rate of 18 percent and a military levy of 1.5 percent, along with a penalty of 25 percent.”

He also adds that the obligation to pay taxes applies not only to income earned from OnlyFans.

Additionally, according to Article 301 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the import, manufacture, sale, and distribution of pornographic materials constitutes illegal activity and carries penalties, ranging from fines to imprisonment. At the same time, online broadcasting of pornography is considered both manufacturing for sale and selling pornographic video products.

Thus, Daniil Hetmantsev seeks to collect taxes from a business that is, in fact, illegal in Ukraine. Previously, in interviews, he discussed the need to legalize pornography, but as a member of parliament, he was unable to achieve this goal.
