The new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor has just hit the market and has quickly gained immense popularity — perhaps even too much. This powerful chip is sold out almost everywhere in the USA and across Europe, leading to abuses from resellers who are asking nearly $1500 for it, despite the official price of $480.
The new Ryzen 7 9800X3D has proven to be a breath of fresh air for users who were disappointed with the AMD Zen 5 and Intel Arrow Lake processors. It has performed exceptionally well in gaming, outperforming the Intel 14900K by 27% and the Core Ultra 9 285K by 33%. Thus, it is no surprise that it has become so popular and scarce so quickly — purchasing it now is as challenging as obtaining a high-performance graphics card was in 2021.
On websites like Newegg, Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, Walmart, and in most Micro Center stores, the new AMD processor is listed as sold out. The situation is similar in Europe: in the German market, major retailers sold out the Ryzen 7 9800X3D even before new shipments arrived, and Mindfactory has even stopped taking pre-orders. In the UK, the processor is also sold out in retail chains like Scan and Overclockers UK, with the next batches expected only at the end of the month.
As is often the case when demand significantly exceeds supply, eBay listings for the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D have emerged with inflated prices. The most opportunistic reseller is asking for $1500 for the processor, which is 212% above its retail price. Other listings range from $645 to $999, mainly from pre-orders that have yet to reach the sellers.
