Speculators who aimed to profit from gamers have found themselves ensnared.
The publication Video Games Chronicle reports that sellers on British eBay are significantly lowering their prices. Some resellers have set a fixed price of £680–700 (holding onto hope), while auction prices range from £510 to £670.
The situation in Japan is also intriguing. According to information from the Institute for Otaku Research, on the day of the console's launch, buyers were able to walk into stores and purchase the PS5 Pro calmly, without any queues or prior reservations.
On the popular Japanese resale site Mercari, prices barely exceed the retail price by $65–130. After deducting the platform's 10% commission and shipping costs, sellers either break even or incur losses. Some openly admit that they are forced to sell consoles at a discount due to miscalculating demand.
However, VGC notes that speculators have indeed found a scarce item—the external drive for the PS5 Pro. The device, priced officially at $79.99, is unavailable in any major store. On eBay UK, sellers are taking advantage of the situation, listing drives for £150–250.
It's worth mentioning that Sony began selling the PS5 Pro on November 7. The new gaming console is priced at $700 in the U.S. and €800 in European countries.
