In a surprising move, the German automotive company Audi has launched a new electric vehicle brand specifically for the Chinese market. This new brand has adopted a rather unoriginal name, AUDI (not to be confused with Audi). It's a joint venture with the Chinese automaker SAIC. Besides its markedly different name, the new brand also features a departure from the iconic four-ring logo.

The first model of the new brand is the AUDI E concept, showcasing the future design of electric vehicles aimed at the Chinese market. The sportback body style measures 4870 mm in length, 1990 mm in width, 1460 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2950 mm. The design is tailored to meet the preferences of Chinese consumers.

Instead of the familiar four rings typically associated with Audi, the AUDI E features illuminated lettering of "AUDI" on the front and rear of the vehicle, as well as on the wheel caps. The traditional grille has been replaced by black rings that include LED lighting and sensors for driver assistance systems.

The interior of the concept boasts microfiber upholstery, illuminated wooden accents, and a curved 4K touchscreen. This screen integrates instruments, infotainment systems, and digital mirrors. Completing the interior are the AI-based voice assistant AUDI Assistant and the AUDI Control touchpad.

The AUDI E concept is built on a new Advanced Digitized Platform, developed by Audi in collaboration with SAIC. Two electric motors deliver a combined output of 764 hp and 800 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The 100 kWh battery provides a range of up to 700 km based on the CLTC cycle, and with 800-volt charging, it can add 370 km in just 10 minutes.

The partnership with SAIC enables Audi to create electric vehicles that align with the local preferences of the Chinese market, leveraging SAIC's expertise in this segment. In simple terms, Chinese buyers prefer distinctly Chinese electric vehicles. Thus, the decision was made to establish the joint AUDI brand.

Starting from mid-2025, AUDI plans to launch three production models of electric vehicles in the mid-range and large segments.
