Amazon MGM Studios is embarking on the creation of a television series based on the iconic video game Mass Effect. This is reported by Variety.
The ambitious project has enlisted writer Daniel Casey (who will also serve as executive producer), known for his work on the blockbuster "F9." Other executive producers include Karim Zreik ("Daredevil"), Avi Arad ("Iron Man," "The Punisher"), and Michael Gamble. Amazon has not disclosed plot details for the upcoming series and is currently withholding official announcements.
Amazon attempted to launch the series in 2021, but talks did not progress further at that time. Before this, several studios had planned to produce a feature film based on the game, but none of those projects came to fruition.
The Mass Effect franchise began in 2007 and quickly garnered the favor of players. Over 15 years, the universe has expanded to include four main games, mobile spin-offs, an animated film, novels, and comics.
The original trilogy's story unfolds in the 22nd century, focusing on the adventures of Commander Shepard, who saves humanity from an invasion by the ancient Reaper race. In the game Mass Effect: Andromeda, released in 2017, the action shifts to a distant future with a new protagonist. Currently, BioWare is developing the fifth installment of the series.
