Recently, Samsung launched its Galaxy Watch7 and Ultra smartwatches. Upon receiving them, some users were unpleasantly surprised by the quality of certain units.
Owners of the Galaxy Watch Ultra have noticed odd shapes of the holes on the side of the watch—where the speakers are located. At first glance, it appears that they have been poorly finished and do not cover the entire contour of the hole.
Angry messages have surfaced on Reddit and X Twitter, accompanied by photos.
“I wonder why the speaker grill isn't cut all the way through? What’s the purpose of this little hole on the Ultra?”
Other users quickly began discussing what this could be. Various opinions were expressed, ranging from "a built-in breath analyzer" to a ventilation hole for the battery and speaker. Some suggest that this is not something to be overly concerned about.
“This is a $650 Galaxy Watch Ultra. This is the same finish you get on $10 Apple Watch clones from Temu.”
Previously, Galaxy Watch Ultra users had reported paint peeling on some units. This defect appeared just a few days into use. The issue pertains to models in Titanium Gray—only they have a coating on the back. The lower-end Galaxy Watch7 faced a problem with rapid battery drain during use. Some users have reported experiencing the same issue with the Ultra.
Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra has also faced criticism for its resemblance to the Apple Watch Ultra. Rumor has it that the company's executive chairman, Lee Jae-Yong, was unhappy about this similarity.
