NVIDIA has officially confirmed the RTX 4070 graphics card featuring GDDR6 memory. The original RTX 4070 will continue to be available in the market.
The only difference between the two graphics cards lies in the memory, which now operates at 20 Gbps instead of the 21 Gbps found in GDDR6X. According to the official specifications, both cards have the same clock speed and memory size. The new card does not have a different name; instead, it is offered as a GDDR6 variant of the existing model.
The NVIDIA RTX 4070 GDDR6 is equipped with the AD104-251 GPU, containing 5888 CUDA cores. It features 12 GB of memory connected via a 192-bit bus, which combined with the slower memory results in a 5% lower bandwidth (480 GB/s versus 504 GB/s). NVIDIA officially claims that the card will deliver "similar" gaming performance, although there is no table of specific results provided.
“To enhance availability and meet high demand, we are introducing the GeForce RTX 4070 with exceptionally fast GDDR6 memory. All other specifications remain unchanged. It offers comparable performance in games and applications.
The card is expected to maintain the same TDP of 200W and will support either 12VHPWR or 8-pin power connectors. The suggested retail price is likely to be the same as that of the existing model. It seems that extra attention will be required when purchasing the NVIDIA RTX 4070 to opt for the faster graphics card.
