The game Ghost of Tsushima debuted in 2020 as a PS4 exclusive, and last week it finally came out on PC. Interest in it turned out to be so high that during the first weekend it became the most popular single-player game from PlayStation on Steam in terms of simultaneous players.
The Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut version became available on Steam on May 16. This is an action-adventure game set in an open world in the year 1274, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. At that time, the island of Tsushima was captured and destroyed by the Mongol Empire. The main character - a Japanese samurai named Jin Sakai - fights against the superior forces of the Mongols, relying on old samurai traditions and unique fighting methods. The player can freely move around the island and explore various locations. The Director's Cut edition includes exclusive armor sets, developer commentary, and the Legends cooperative mode.
It appears that PlayStation's multi-platform approach is developing excellently, as Jin's revenge story has become an even bigger hit than the previous games featuring Kratos and Peter Parker. According to SteamDB data, the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima reached a peak of 77,154 concurrent players in the first weekends after its release, making it the most popular single-player PlayStation game on the Steam platform.
For comparison, the previous leader God of War (2018), which is now in second place, had a peak of 73,000 concurrent players. Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) now holds the third place with a peak of 66,000 concurrent players. The Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West duology has results of 56,000 and 40,000 users at its peak, respectively.
The only other PlayStation game with a higher peak of users on Steam is the multiplayer Helldivers 2 with a colossal result of 458,000 concurrent players. However, it has a certain advantage as it appeared on the Steam platform on the day of its release, unlike the porting years later.
