Apple is continuing its work on a foldable iPhone, which may debut as soon as 2026. Rumors suggest that the phone will fold horizontally, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
In February, it was reported that Apple was in the early stages of developing two foldable iPhone prototypes. However, it now seems that Apple has settled on one design. According to a source, the device has an internal codename of V68, indicating that "the idea has progressed beyond the conceptual stage" and is now "under development with suppliers."
Reports indicate that Apple is still working on smoothing out the crease that appears when the phone is unfolded. The company is also striving to make the device thinner.
Recent rumors also suggest that Apple is concurrently developing a foldable computer resembling a MacBook. Its market release is also likely to begin in 2026.
In addition to working on foldable models, Apple may be preparing to update the iPhone next year with a mechanical camera aperture. This feature would allow users to adjust the depth of field—blurring the background while keeping the subject in focus, or vice versa, sharpening the background. Rumors also suggest that Apple is working on a significantly thinner iPhone, set to launch as early as 2025.
