The uBlock Origin Lite extension, which allows users to block unwanted content on web pages, is no longer available in the Firefox add-on store.
The developer of uBlock Origin Lite, Raymond Hill, states that the changes were made due to a "meaningless and hostile review process" from the Mozilla extension store team.
Back in September, the Mozilla store flagged all versions of uBlock Origin Lite as violating its policies. Reviews alleged that the extension collects user data and contains "machine-generated code." At that time, Hill reportedly debunked these claims, stating that "anyone with even a basic understanding of JavaScript can see within seconds that the alleged violations are nonsensical."
Currently, Firefox users who still intend to use uBlock Origin Lite in their browser are recommended to download the latest version from GitHub (which can automatically update). Interestingly, Mozilla later acknowledged its mistake and apologized, but the developer did not change his stance.
Meanwhile, the original uBlock Origin for Firefox remains available. The Lite version is an extension based on Manifest V3, which offers a reduced load on resources such as CPU and memory.
Hill has also previously suggested that Chrome users switch to uBlock Origin Lite after the original version was marked as unsupported with the transition to MV3 (although there are ways to bypass this limitation).
