Demand for used cars from abroad: what models do Ukrainians choose?

In addition to 5,700 new passenger cars, Ukrainians purchased nearly 17,000 used vehicles imported from abroad in September.

This figure marks one of the lowest for 2024 in this automotive segment, with only January showing a lower number. Compared to September 2023, registrations of used cars imported from abroad decreased by 19%. Furthermore, this number dropped by 34% compared to August 2024.

Ukrainians predominantly import used cars with gasoline engines, which make up 46% of the total in this category. In comparison, gasoline models account for 37% of new vehicles.

The distribution of engine types in the used car segment in August is as follows:

1. Gasoline vehicles — 46%;
2. Diesel vehicles — 25%;
3. Electric vehicles — 19%;
4. Hybrids and vehicles with gas equipment — 5% each.

The average age of used passenger cars that received Ukrainian plates in September is 9.2 years.

1. VOLKSWAGEN Golf — 1,018 units;
2. RENAULT Megane — 793 units;
3. SKODA Octavia — 685 units;
4. VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan — 483 units;
5. VOLKSWAGEN Passat — 477 units;
6. NISSAN Leaf — 440 units;
7. AUDI Q5 — 426 units;
8. AUDI A4 — 333 units;
9. TESLA Model 3 — 325 units;
10. NISSAN Rogue — 322 units.

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 176,000 used passenger cars registered in Ukraine for the first time. This is a 19% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
